The Return of Paris Now!

Hi Everybody, Would like to institute the grand return of Paris Now ! My daily thoughts about Paris and the city of light. Here is the first one for today, June 18th 2015. Paris Now! Food for thought. Would love to see the mayor of Paris change the name of the metro station Franklin D Roosevelt to Stalingrad and vice versa just for a week. Sure it might be confusing at first, but it might make people think twice about this country's relationship with the United States. The poor people of the working cartier would be forced to think about an American president who introduced social reform and the richy bitchy chic quarter would have no choice but to pay a depressing tribute to a battle from World War Two in which the Communists came out triumphant.

The Nicolas Cage Long Hair/Bad Movie Theory The Theory: Nicolas Cage has never done good work while sporting hair extensions on his balding head. The Evidence: Here are some notable horrible films featuring Nicolas Cage with long hair: Hell Driver, Season of the Witch, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Bangkok Dangerous, Next, Con Air, Ghost Rider (I am counting the fire around the ghost rider’s head as long hair) ----------------------------------------------- Here are some decent films featuring Nicolas Cage with short hair: Moonstruck, Wild At Heart, Birdy, Raising Arizona, Leaving Las Vegas, Adaptation, Bad Lieutenant 2: Port of Call New Orleans -------------------------- Now to be certain, there are plenty of horrible films featuring Nicolas Cage with short hair. But one thing is for certain, there are no good films with Nicolas Cage with long hair. Con Air is not a good film. People only remember it because there is a good joke about a Teddy bear, “Sweet Home Alabama”

I can still see your shadow walking: a tribute to Thea St. Omer

April 7th, 2015 Yesterday a friend informed me that a classmate of mine at NYU, Thea Saint Omer was found dead in her shop in Syracuse. It is a blunt fact. It is awful news. It has affected me deeply, for although I did not know Thea that well, I believe that everyone we meet has the potential to throw their weight into how we view the world. Thea did this for me with a single image. It was 17 or so years ago that I went to film school in New York. Thea was among many classmates. I did not know Thea that well. The odd conversation in the hall, the observations made in showing each other's work. That especially film school trait of sometimes giving commentary that is much about proving one's own intelligence as helping one's classmate with honest criticism. I must admit I was guilty of some pretty snarky comments in my time at NYU. Film school can be a strange laboratory where kind words are spoken, but it can be rough to show your work to peers.
