My Fabulous Visit To The Bibliotheque/Discotheque

Paris --

It has been on my mind for while now. A building that I first thought was a misprint, or at the very worst a joke at public tax payer's expense, but as it turned out, through further exploration to be as real as the hand in front of my face....

Yes, in Paris' strange but loveable fifteenth arrondisement, home to old ladies with poodles, Korean restaurants and retail shopping, on the banks of the Seine where sixties architecture runs a little too rampant for my taste, lies a mystical place that has combined the sexy, sultry sounds of Diana Ross with a helpful and streamline modern lending library serving the public need.

Yes and that place is....

The BIBLIOTHEQUE/DISCOTHEQUE....

At first I played the skeptic. What could possibly be gained by combining a public library with a discoteque. But then, after reflection in the light of the disco ball...I thought to myself....

What couldn't be gained?

Combining a sacred place of learning with a boogy woogy get down environment may seem controversial at first. But that is because you haven't tried it.

Because this isn't your grandmother's libary. Oh no...

This is a whole new scene square....

Step inside this den of music and learning where you can experience the wonders of hardcore house music and the advantages of a collection housing every major Parisian newspaper since 1914 on microfiche.

Tired from the learning and the boogie?

Why not visit the chill out lounge/newly renovated dewey decimel system catalogue updated to computer?

You have questions. The Bibliotheque/Discotheque has answers.

Like you, I also pondered if the reading of Jane Austen or Moliere would go well with the contemprary sounds of assholes like David Guetta. It turns out they don't. But there is also retro night. Thank god.

Somehow the French has made this seemingly odd, recklessly inapproprriate combination work, and I am all the hipper and smarter for my visit.

Disco and study do not seem on the surface like natural bedfellows but that is because you still have the image of a steely eyed librarian telling you to "shoosh". Banish this image from your brain. The librarians at the discotheque/bibliotheque are right out of Studio 54. I saw a woman in a skin tight leopard skin body suit checking out a copy of War and Peace. Talk about a hot number! I saw a topless guy with ripped ads helping a lady find the self help section.

In conclusion. I thoroughly recommend the Disco Library. Doors open at 21 and close at noon the next day. They are on Ibiza time down here.

Like I said.

This aint your granmama's discotheque/ bibliotheque!
