What is With All the Girlz In Drum Bands?

GIRLS BEATING DRUMS TOGETHER: The Parisian Phenomenon

The last few nights while my band has been practising to be decent for our show tonight, we have noticed a preponderance of girls coming out of practise rooms carrying large drums of all shapes and sizes.

Most of them seem to be coordinated in this effort as their are hints of costumes and the drums seem to be marked with logos of various sorts, indicating their orders.

Have I missed some deep sociological shift?

Is there a new past time I am not aware of?

What is with all the girls that have organized themselves into drum bands and seem to be practising for shows all over Paris? Are they in marching bands? Is there a vast need for this somewhere I have not picked up on? Because there seems to be a lot of them. 15 or so per practise room.

Is this for demonstrations? And if this effort is for demonstrations, why the need to be so well rehearsed?

I do not know if these women are single but they seem to be between the ages of 25 and 35. All of them and most of the time, they haul their drums out of the pratice rooms sweaty and kind of resigned. They often are wearing baggy pants.

If anyone has the keys to this mystery or whether some one want to weigh in on this popular movement, I would be all ears. Of course it's pretty loud, so I can see the "getting your aggression out" factor.
