Breaking Bad Speculation

Breaking Bad Speculation:

So I, like most of the world has seen the Breaking Bad series up until the episode that is a somewhat unpronounceable American Indian place name. What a series it has been. A master class. A beacon of hope in a sea of mediocrity. Thank you Vince Gilligan.

So on to the speculation. Please do not read further if you have not seen the series but I cannot resist predicting what will happen next.

We know it’s not going to be Walt that dies in the shootout because he’s got to get the ricin left in the house at a future time. That means four outcomes for the show to go from this very kinetic episode that was aired last Sunday.

So here goes:

1)Jesse dies or is badly injured. It would make sense as he seems to be the fallen angel destined for tragedy and also relieves him of the moral punishment of going to jail.

2)Hank dies (Hank being injured is too much like an earlier episode wherein he is left bedridden and you know that screenwriters wouldn’t want to set up that outcome again). Hank dying would make sense from a plot point of view as it would give Walter White more time.

3)The most gruesome outcome would be that Jesse and Hank die in a poetic tragedy of epic proportions. A little too neat. I don’t think this is going to happen.

4)And then a final possible outcome, that no one significant dies which would be rather anticlimactic.

I think there is a 50/50 Jesse and a 50/50 Hank death to reconcile in the next episode.

These are the odds that I am playing.

I just thought that I would speculate on the finest offering on television now, maybe ever. Breaking Bad has defied all expectations and the writers have truly mastered the art of the reveal.

It has taught me:

1. Fine screenwriting is about the way you reveal information. The structure of when you want the audience to know things. When you want them to be ahead. And when you want them to be behind the characters. It is a fine, difficult and very treacherous art.

2. To take your time when you know you’ve got a dramatic set up. It is okay to go SLOW when you know you have them by the throat.

3. And as long as you set up the rules with your audience, it is fine to kill your main character. They will not resent you for it. They will love you for it.

I am not realizing that all my speculation was wrong! How interesting to be so misguided! I guess it proves that the series really had me in its jaws!
